Stephen R. Grant

About

For over forty years Stephen has been providing advice and counsel to mutual insurance companies throughout Ontario and other jurisdictions in Canada on a broad range of matters including board governance, regulatory matters affecting insurers and amalgamation of insurers. Related to this Stephen is a member of Advisory Committees to the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario on matters affecting insurers and has assisted with amendments to various Statutes in Ontario and other Provinces affecting insurers. Stephen’s practice also includes representing non-share capital corporations and charities and providing advice on estate planning and estate administration.

Stephen has been selected by the Waterloo Region Law Association as the 2024 recipient of the Coulter A. Osborne Award which is awarded to one of its members whose integrity, comity and beneficence in professional practice and public life uphold the highest traditions of the profession and enhance the reputation of the Association and its members.

Outside of work Stephen has been and remains actively involved in children's related charities. Stephen was a Big Brother in the Big Brothers Association for more than 25 years and a member of the Board of Directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters for 21 years, including 3 terms as President. Stephen assisted in establishing Camp McGovern, a registered charity which operates a summer residential camp for less fortunate children and has served on its Board since. Stephen also served on the Board of the Children's Safety Village of Waterloo Region for a number of years. Stephen is a past Trustee of the Waterloo Region Law Association and was a long-time member of the Board of Directors of the Grand River Conservation Authority.
