Legal Assistant - Contract Position

 

Madorin, Snyder LLP is a full service law firm based in Kitchener, Ontario and serving clients throughout Ontario. Over the last 60 years we have maintained our reputation as specialists in a number of areas of the law including family and employment law and the defence of insurance claims, professionals, municipalities and manufacturers.

 

The Legal Assistant will be responsible for covering a 1 year maternity leave contract. Along with the varied tasks that come with the position, this fast paced environment takes a motivated and organized person to succeed. From time to time you may be required to assist other Staff, Associates or Partners.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drafting, preparing and typing of correspondence, reports, pleadings, briefs, various litigation documents and court forms;
  • File management including postings into files;
  • Maintains files in an efficient and effective manner;
  • Files/photocopies/scans/bind;
  • Schedules/books examinations for discovery, mediation etc.;
  • Compiles/assembles/updates briefs;
  • Enters and edits counsel’s time into PCLAW within deadlines as required;
  • Prepares standard correspondences;
  • Proofreads documents and checks for appropriate formatting, spelling and grammar;

Skills and Specifications:

  • Must be able to work well independently as well as within a team
  • Excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills; verbal and written
  • Knowledge of compiling and filing court records
  • Fast paced environment - must be able to work well under pressure

Educational and Qualifications:

  • At least two years of direct work experience as a Legal Assistant
  • Certificate or Diploma in a legal admin program
  • Computer literate, including effective working skills of PC Law, Primafact and MS Office Suite
