STEPHEN R. GRANT

Stephen grew up in the Kitchener-Waterloo area, attended high school at Waterloo Collegiate Institute, and pursued undergraduate studies at the University of Waterloo, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree, with Honours in Political Science, in 1978. Stephen was on the Dean's Honours List in 1977 and 1978. Stephen attended the University of Windsor in the faculty of Law from 1978 to 1981, when he received his Bachelor of Laws degree.

Stephen articled with the Kitchener firm of Artindale, Whitfield and was called to the Bar in 1983. Following his admission to the Bar, Stephen accepted a position as an associate lawyer with Artindale, Whitfield & Flaxbard,. In late 1984, Stephen accepted a position with Madorin, Snyder LLP, at which time he restricted his practice to a solicitor's practice.

Stephen's principal areas of practice are: business law for corporations, health care groups, professional practices, insurance companies and high tech companies; estate and tax planning; and estate administration. Stephen presently represents a number of medical service corporations, insurance companies and non-share capital corporations across the Province of Ontario.

Stephen has guest lectured at both local universities on various aspects of business law, franchises, and commercial financing; and to a number of local organizations on estate and tax planning and business succession.

Stephen was a member of the Board of the Grand River Conservation Authority from 1990 to 2001, sitting on its Planning and Operations, Bylaw Review, and Administration Finance and Personnel Committees. He has been actively involved in the Big Brothers Association in Kitchener - Waterloo, both as a Big Brother for more than 20 years and as a member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of numerous committees of the Big Brothers Association of Kitchener-Waterloo Inc. since 1993. Stephen was President of the Association in 1996 and 1997 and again for the years 1998 and 1999. In 2002 Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Kitchener-Waterloo amalgamated and Stephen is currently Past President of the new organization.
